I love creating pillows. It is so easy to purchase the smallest bit of fabric and create a new accessory for your room. Not too long ago I found a fabric that I thought would add a lovely touch of coral to my daughter’s bed. It wasn’t at a fabric store…it was from, shocker, Target. My favorite place ever. I saw two fabric napkins on sale for $2 for the set and knew they would look great sew into a pillow. But it would be a bit simple so I decided to add a little extra detail.
I have an entire bin of 6 strand floss that I inherited from my great grandmother. I’m not sure what she used to make with it, but I’ve used it for so many different craft projects. This being one of them. I wanted to draw attention to the centers of the fabric detail just a bit and add a bit of dimension.
I used a grey floss for the 5 centers I wanted to accentuate. If you remember my kids room has grey as its neutral.
I then chose a different floss color to add some rays of detail. I was using a simple, classic sewing technique, over, under, over, under. Just keep rotating your fabric until you’ve completed the full rotation. This wasn’t hard at all.
Once I added my details it was time to sew up the pillow. I added a zipper to one side for easy removal if it gets dirty.
and there it is…my daughters $2 pillow.

Great idea!
I love making napkin pillows! And, adding the embroidery was brilliant — such a nice pop of color.
